Even during the current climate of lockdown and societal restrictions there are a few business areas that must keep on trucking. The food industry has seen a boom in the last few weeks with many of us now used to seeing gaps in supermarket shelves during our weekly shop. I think the panic buying has transformed into binge buying as we all adjust to our affected lifestyles. Behind the scenes, all those products still need some top notch photography for promotional duties as well as essential packaging requirements. Products may have had their release schedule amended to accommodate changes in the supply chain but people have got to eat and those products will get to store, no matter what. A9K were recently asked to provide a product photography shoot for a Lincolnshire development kitchen. The photos will fulfil a range of forthcoming packaging designs for a well known, high street brand. Food is a genuine passion of mine so being paid to accomplish photography output like this is a real joy. The shoot spanned a long day made substantially easier by two hugely talented development chefs. Although certain bookings lend themselves to a lone camera person in the wilderness, food photography at this level is most definitely a team effort. To be honest, when all the individual parts of that team are functioning in full flow, it almost feels effortless.

The project brief asked for a specific range of shots, highlighting meal ideas as well as individual food items. The photos had to look glossy, mouth watering and substantial. We used some food photography tricks of the trade to hit the mark but without pushing too hard into the realms of fake food. All the food items were completely edible which is not always the case. The shoot covered a range of savoury pastry products, pasta and a couple of desserts.
