A9K Photo were recently asked to provide promotional images for Spalding’s most unique wedding venue. Sessions House in the town centre was a fully functioning magistrate’s court up until it’s closure in 2014. Since then, the Grade II listed building has remained almost completely dormant. Late in 2016 it was purchased with the intention of becoming a boutique wedding location. Now that the refurbishment of this iconic Lincolnshire time capsule has finally completed and all the change of use small print has had it’s I’s dotted and T’s crossed, Sessions House is open for business.
The building’s Tudor Gothic facade dates back to it’s original construction in 1842 and even though through the years, obvious additions and conversions have taken place, the stone exterior of the building still looks virtually identical to when it was brand new – albeit weathered and even more characterful. Inside is littered with evidence of the building’s previous life. Legal paraphernalia and historical documents can still be found tucked away. Even some of the handmade furniture is original and in still in place for future wedding ceremonies and receptions.
So, given that this was no ordinary wedding venue, the planned shoot had to be something a bit more considered too. Three couples were asked to model. One traditional, one same sex and one contemporary. The venue itself is so unlike anywhere else in terms of architectural design, layout and atmosphere that telling three very different wedding stories seemed the most appropriate way to go. The interior is such an incredibly flexible space that it really does need to be seen to be believed.
For the contemporary couple, Leah is in a plain elegant wedding dress with a statement full length cape, finished with vintage jewellery. Paul is wearing a velvet suit in a variety of pinks and burgundy accented with a plain burgundy bow tie.
Liam is in a traditional plain 3 piece, jazzed up with a floral shirt with colours to compliment the autumnal mink coloured suit. Jacq’s suit showing his flamboyant nature with a floral watercolour print on the sleeves and lower legs. Complimentary colours working nicely with Liam wearing a mink tie.
Finally, Hannah and Darryn wearing a traditional style wedding dress with detailed lace and beaded top and flowing chiffon skirt. Darryn opted for a navy woollen suit with an on trend classic bow tie.
